Developing Wii friendly Ajax web applications using WiiExtJS
The title alone was a mouthful! But you heard it right- announced on the ExtJS blog a couple days ago was the posting about ExtJS support for Nintendo Wii’s embedded Opera Browser. As the article discusses, when creating web apps for the Wii, you have to account for the difference in screen resolution, font size, and limited input sources. Nonetheless, a nifty idea to have ExtJS now support applications optimized for use on the Wii.
Take a look at the Wii Forum Reader. As you will see, it’s typical ExtJS functionality, but compacted to the Wii browser layout, but on the Wii is fits quite nicely.
No commentsWhy didn’t someone tell me about Yahoo! Pipes?

So, I’m sifting through some blog posts on ajaxian.com, and I come to a post about this beta technology developed by Yahoo! called ‘Pipes’. I won’t try to explain the whole thing, but in essence I can mash up all kinds of data from the web in almost any way shape or form to create very convenient applications for public use. I’ve already started reading the documentation for it, and Wow! This is really a great tool for RSS feed readers, and Information hogs alike!
<More info on how it works here.>
Here’s the cool part: Once you got your pipe ready and working, you can share it with anyone in a number of forms. Export it as a Facebook application, or add it to your Wordpress blog (which is what I’m thinking….).
Ok so I’m excited about it. I’m going to play around with it a bit more, and see what I can come up with, and you should too! Check out my public pipes at: http://pipes.yahoo.com/jasontclark.
2 commentsA whole month…..
A whole month has gone by, and I’ve had no posts. That’s bad. Well, the fact is, I’ve been quite busy this past month. One thing I’ve really been excited about is all the kewl web2.0 stuff I’ve been finding. There’s been a cause to really separate what I know from the pack, and so the search goes on for really innovative and useful ajax technology.
Take Mochikit for instance- I really liked their in-line interpreter example. I installed it just because of that one example- very kewl.
Another exciting tool is Behaviour.js - Ben Nolan’s attempt at an unobtrusive js solution- a pretty nice one too. I think this same registration of events and functions can also been seen in jQuery.
So along with game development stuff, I think I’ll start blogging on next-gen web stuff too. Both are steps in the right direction- the future of the online experience.
OK, gotta go….finishing up some code…..
