UT3 Mods for the Playstation 3

January 7th, 2008

For me, the XBOX 360 initially enticed me because of the Microsoft XNA Framework.  I especially like the idea of being able to do console development, which is why I now have one.  However, I’m glad the Epic Games has added the ability to mod UT3 for the PS3 platform.  According to an article posted yesterday on the PlanetUnreal website, the PS3 modding tools were released in beta form to the members of the UT3Mods mailing list.  I immediately signed up as a member to the mailing list, in hopes to see some additional activity around it.

VOIP and PSP???

January 3rd, 2008

My lovely wife is cooking dinner right now, so I decided to open up my laptop and check out the latest articles on Gamasutra. The first article that caught my eye was about Sony soon to announce VOIP capabilities using Skype. Skype? Yes, Skype. Integrating voice chat with all of the major consoles has been done, so it’s only natural that this phenomenon would trickle down to the handhelds. I once thought about how cool it would be to use my PSP as a phone, and it looks like we aren’t too far from it.

PS3 price drops to $499….Some rejoice, Some Don’t

October 4th, 2007

If this move by Sony could be used in Final Fantasy VII, this would be Cloud’s limit break- Sony has decided that its flagship video game system, namely the Playstation 3, needs to be marked down. You don’t say??!? Well like many, I’ve have eagerly been awaiting this for quite some time. However, the market doesn’t seem to care that much.

Here’s the lowdown: The price of the 60GB version of the PS3 drops from $599 to its new low at $499. Now, even though there’s a cost savings, there are two (maybe 3) other elements to the equation. First, the 20GB version of the PS3 is no more. That’s right fans- no more PS3-Lite. Secondly, since the 60GB outfit has dropped in price, Sony has decided to release an 80GB version. Don’t be surprised if Microsoft decides to make this same play with the XBOX 360.

With Nintendo’s success with the Wii, it’s been hard for Sony to compete with a console with such a niche market. I must admit, similar to the birth of the iPod and OS X, Nintendo has managed to make a huge comeback and heavily impact the marketing directions for their immediate competitors. The initial price of the PS3 and it’s seemingly strategic unavailabilty left consumers with a sour taste. Even though this might be a step in the right direction, it appears that there are a couple more steps left.
