UnB-Wii-vable! Desktop VR Displays using the Wiimote

January 4th, 2008

An IBM colleague of mine pointed me to this YouTube video yesterday. It’s basically a video of a very charismatic Carnegie Mellon student, by the name of Johnny Lee, who describes the concept of using the Nintendo Wiimote and the Nintendo Sensor bar something called ‘Head Tracking’. In short, the Wiimote is able to track the location of your head relative to a video screen. By doing this, the picture adapts to that location, and you are able to view a more accurate display of a 3-dimensional space. It’s hard to explain, but it’s nothing short of amazing. As Johnny Lee states towards the end of the video, I’m sure Wii developers are salivating at the promise of this technology.

Check it out!!
