Video Game Streaming Technology
I’m not exactly sure how I ran into this, but this is a very interesting concept. StreamMyGame.com has developed a video game streaming technology that allows to stream video games from your gaming workstation over to any of you additionally connected machines on your LAN. For example, if you have a laptop that is moderately equipped with a video graphics card, or better yet a Linux machine (*YES, a LINUX machine), and you want to play Crysis on it, just as you do on your more that adequately powered Windows machine. Using this technology, this would allow you to stream video games from the one “super” machine to the “not-so-super” one.
Take a look at this video. It’s very impressive:
Platform Second Life book, now available on MEAP!

I’m excited to announce that my first book, Platform Second Life, is now available through the Manning Early Adoption Program on the Manning website. I like to think of it as the “book beta” site. This is certainly a proud moment for me, being that this is my first book authoring venture. Many thanks to my co-author, Nick Chase.

1 commentWeGame.com - YouTube for Gamers
I stumbled upon the WeGame.com site this morning. Nice idea. After sitting in the student center listening to young students rant and rave about dungeon sieges that only existed within the 19 inches of their flat screen monitors, it occurred to me that this generation of gamers like to discuss their experiences. Even more so, they leap at the chances to show other what they can do. So I think in the spirit of that, WeGame.com has provided gamers with an outlet to sort of document their gaming accomplishments, or follies in the same way that YouTube allows people to document themselves. It should be interesting to see the video that get uploaded.
Here’s one: A video of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - the aerial assault. Check it out.
UT3 Mods for the Playstation 3
For me, the XBOX 360 initially enticed me because of the Microsoft XNA Framework. I especially like the idea of being able to do console development, which is why I now have one. However, I’m glad the Epic Games has added the ability to mod UT3 for the PS3 platform. According to an article posted yesterday on the PlanetUnreal website, the PS3 modding tools were released in beta form to the members of the UT3Mods mailing list. I immediately signed up as a member to the mailing list, in hopes to see some additional activity around it.

An IBM colleague of mine pointed me to this YouTube video yesterday. It’s basically a video of a very charismatic Carnegie Mellon student, by the name of Johnny Lee, who describes the concept of using the Nintendo Wiimote and the Nintendo Sensor bar something called ‘Head Tracking’. In short, the Wiimote is able to track the location of your head relative to a video screen. By doing this, the picture adapts to that location, and you are able to view a more accurate display of a 3-dimensional space. It’s hard to explain, but it’s nothing short of amazing. As Johnny Lee states towards the end of the video, I’m sure Wii developers are salivating at the promise of this technology.

1 commentVOIP and PSP???
My lovely wife is cooking dinner right now, so I decided to open up my laptop and check out the latest articles on Gamasutra. The first article that caught my eye was about Sony soon to announce VOIP capabilities using Skype. Skype? Yes, Skype. Integrating voice chat with all of the major consoles has been done, so it’s only natural that this phenomenon would trickle down to the handhelds. I once thought about how cool it would be to use my PSP as a phone, and it looks like we aren’t too far from it.
